SWAT season 4 is happening on CBS but there are still a lot of questions regarding its official release date. Just recently, the network offered some updates about the potential premiere window of the upcoming installment.
Previously, CBS confirmed it will be moving Survivor back to 2021. Because of that, SWAT season 4 was, reportedly, shifted back to its old timeslot -- Wednesday night at 10 PM E.T. It was, also, noted that the new installment is, already, part of the fall schedule.
However, there are still uncertainties here. Due to the current global health crisis, some things could change and filming still depends on the situation. While productions are allowed to take place, a lot of things need to be considered first.
If ever there's no further delay, the new season could premiere in either October or November. In addition, the fourth installment will likely consist of 22 episodes in total. Yet, that number could change, especially due to some filming restrictions.
When it comes to the story, SWAT season 4 will be dealing with a lot of challenges. It looks like the series will address some of the issues happening in the real world right now, including police brutality and reform. These timely topics could be further explored once the show returns on the small screen.
These issues have been part of the series since the beginning and, while these are challenging, it's clear that the show wanted to continue addressing these matters. They wanted to bring a point of view to the audience that they've never considered before.
In an interview with The Huffington Post, executive producer-co-creator Aaron Rahsaan Thomas has something to say about this. He noted that they don't see these issues as something to be fearful about; they see it as an opportunity instead.
Rahsaan said they don't want to offer easy answers as they wanted to expand the conversation about it. In a previous Twitter post, the official writers' room noted that they'll be working hard to mine the truth surrounding these issues in SWAT season 4.
The upcoming installment could deliver more interesting stories about the policing world, something the series has already done before. The show might convey more important messages so that viewers would recognize how important these issues are.
But, aside from tackling the issues in the real world, SWAT season 4 could also pick up some of the stories originally planned in season 3 finale. There's still one episode left that wasn't yet filmed and this might be included once the new season premieres.
