Jun Ji Hyun is returning to the Kingdom universe to headline the supplementary chapter called Kingdom: Asin.

According to a report by All Kpop, the Legend of the Blue Sea star will make her drama comeback with the Netflix supplemental series, which expands the coverage of the Kingdom universe.

It can be recalled that Jun Ji Hyun made a cameo towards the end of Kingdom Season 2 as a mysterious character. Netizens initially thought that her character will play a pivotal role in the third season of the series but it turns out that Netflix had different plans to introduce the warrior and expand the franchise at the same time.

Kingdom: Asin is expected to explore the origins of Jun Ji Hyun's character named Asin. The supplemental story is expected to take the form of a 70-minute feature film that will center around the journey of Asin during the Joseon period in Korea.

There has been no word yet on whether the supplemental story will be released before Kingdom Season 3. Netflix has not confirmed the release date for Season 3 as well.

Park Byung Eun, who plays the role of Captain Min Chi Rok in the Kingdom series is also expected to appear in Kingdom: Asin. This is expected to build the connection between Asin's story and that of Prince Lee Chang's quest to discover more about the mysterious disease that causes people to behave like zombies.

Jun Ji Hyun and Park Byung Eun will reportedly begin filming for Kingdom: Asin sometime in October, but pre-production has already begun for the project. Kingdom Season 1 director Kim Sung Hoon will be helming the addition to the series.

Apart from Kingdom series, Jun Ji Hyun will also, reportedly, star Mount Jiri, a series written by Kingdom writer Kim Eun Hee. Kim Eun Hee is one of the top writers in the suspense genre and also penned series such as Sign, Ghost, Three Days, and Signal.

According to a report by Soompi, Jun Ji Hyun may reunite with her Kingdom co-star Joo Hi Hoon for the drama after the latter received an offer to play the lead role opposite the actress. However, a statement from his agency said that the actor may not have enough time to film for the drama this year because of previous commitments. Mount Jiri is a story that will revolve around Mount Jiri national park rangers and is expected to air within the first half of 2021.
