A newly discovered document reveals intriguing research that the Cupertino company has been doing for the Apple Glass. According to the document, the Apple Glass could turn any surface into a display. The industry has long been waiting for the arrival of the rumored Augmented Reality (AR) glass from Apple.

Potential Major Apple Glass Feature

A newly uncovered Apple patent application picked up by Apple Insider reveals an interesting concept about its upcoming augmented reality glasses. Allegedly called Apple Glass, the patent contains the company's response to the question most consumers have-how to interact with a mixed virtual or real environment. Based on the patent, Apple Glass could accomplish this task by utilizing infrared heat-sensing technology to detect when a user touches a real-world object.

Interestingly, this technology could enable the Apple Glass to visually project the controls on real-world objects and react whenever they touch them. The technology would detect the heat transfer when the user touches any object. The patent "Method and device for detecting a touch between a first object and a second object," was filed in 2016 but was only revealed a few days ago.

The patent points out that a new way of presenting controls superimposed on real-world objects would be crucial moving forward. The Apple Glass extends virtual objects in the real world around the wearer to make it look as if there are buttons and controls positioned where the wearer could easily tap and touch them. This patent, along with other related concepts of showing data to Apple Glass users, is all part of the company's wide-ranging work on augmented reality.

Other Apple Glass Details

It also reflects Apple's passion and commitment to discovering more ways to bring a more efficient augmented reality experience to Apple Glass users in the future. Interestingly, another AR-related patent similar to this one was filed by the same Daniel Kurz, which has something to do with the precise handling of virtual and real-world objects.

Just like all other patent applications, we could not guarantee that Apple would introduce this technology as one of the features of the Apple Glass or on its other future products. The Cupertino company has not yet confirmed the existence of Apple Glass. But, over the past months, multiple rumors and leaks surfaced online, revealing that the company is working on a product that has something to do with augmented reality.
