Xiaomi has been doing well even if critics notice that they have been notorious for trying to copy some features of the Apple iPhone. For some, it is a move to show the world that they can offer the same technology but a lowered-price and run on a different mobile operating system.

Speaking of operating systems, Xiaomi reportedly has plans to add another feature familiar to iPhone users. Some may not view it as a big feature but it is a handy feature for folks who have gotten used to it. This is about the tapping feature that is used on the Apple device. Though it comes as a surprise to some, this gesture feature is not solely credited to the Cupertino company, XDA reported. Google was already experimenting with it but most associate it with Apple.

At this point where most phones are coming out with new features, it may not matter. But it does speak well for Xiaomi and its upcoming phones. The feature will reportedly be included in the MIUI 12 update where phone owners just have to give their device a couple of taps to perform something. That, of course, depends on what user would assign on double or even triple taps made to their device.

Once ready, the new feature will maximize the use of having sensors on phones. The assignment of actions can take a load off some consumers who have to deal with accidental ones occurring when their phone is moved, touched and so on while stored in pockets or bags.

For now, the number of things that a user can do seems pretty limited. However, it cannot be discounted that this is a work in progress on Xiaomi's end. So far, the only things owners can do is take a screenshot, turn on the torch (flashlight), launch the camera or open the control center. There is also a chance that this could be the initial thing Xiaomi phone owners can do. More actions could be added from future updates.

As far as Android 11 is concerned, Google has its version of gestures for users from leaked codes. It remains to be seen if they can do better than what Apple has done although it will take some time. It all starts by breaking the ice and then taking it from there. The list of actions from gestures is likely to expand as they go along, ones that end-users will likely look forward to for ease of use of their mobile phones.
