A recent event for Ji Chang Wook drew mixed reactions from netizens after the actor worked as a convenience store clerk for a day and caused a massive commotion.

According to a report by All Kpop, Ji Chang Wook showed up at a GS25 convenience store in Sinchon on August 3 to report as a convenience store worker after the franchise announced that the actor will be working behind the counter for one day.

However, as fans caught wind of his presence at the store, they immediately flocked to the particular branch of GS25 in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the actor.

Pretty soon, the front of the store was surrounded by a giant crowd of people, shunning social distancing health requirements in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ji Chang Wook, who was supposed to end his shift at 6 p.m. that night, was pulled out as early as 2:30 p.m. because of the commotion that his presence caused.

After seeing the crowd on social media, many netizens were disgusted by the publicity stunt that caused such social distancing violations that endangered the health of the public. They criticized the organizers for their short-sightedness in planning the event. Some were worried that, because of the event, a lot of people might contract coronavirus again.

Meanwhile, many fans of Ji Chang Wook said that they wished he went on duty at a convenience store near them so they could have caught a glimpse of the actor too.

Ji Chang Wook is, currently, starring in the SBS drama Backstreet Rookie, where he plays the role of a convenience store owner who hires a former high school bully as his part-time worker. The drama, which also stars Kim Yoo Jung, is holding steady in terms of ratings for its timeslot.

After Backstreet Rookie, Ji Chang Wook may dive right into his next role for a short form drama with Kim Ji Won. According to his Glorious Entertainment, the actor received an offer to appear in City Couple's Way of Love, which will be directed by It's Okay Not to Be Okay PD Park Shin Woo.

City Couple's Way of Love is a short form drama that will be made up of only 12 episodes, which will be 25 minutes long and will be released through KakaoTV. Production is expected to begin by October with a November target release date, Soompi reported.
