Queen Elizabeth II had the final say about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's decision to quit the royal life. She, reportedly, "stepped in" to stop the Sussex couple from changing a lot of things within the British Royal Family and the Monarchy.

Before Megxit, talks about the couple, "modernizing" the British Monarchy, became very evident. A source close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, also, told the Daily Mail that both of them were "single-handedly" modernizing the whole dynamic of the royal life.

Reports, then, said that this became even more apparent when they laid their plans for their exit earlier this year. Based on their initial announcement, they wanted to continue serving the Queen and the Crown, while they live a peaceful life outside the United Kingdom.

Despite setting their plans straight, Queen Elizabeth II stopped the Sussex couple from doing so, a royal expert told the True Royalty TV, according to the Daily Express. Roya Nikkah, reportedly, explained that the British Monarch did not allow Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to be "half in" and "half out" from their roles within the British Monarchy.

When reports emerged, revealing the details of the Duke and Duchess' exit, the public learned that they did not get what they initially wanted. Instead of continuing to serve the Queen, even outside the United Kingdom, the final terms of "Megxit" clarified that they would cease to represent the Crown. The terms also included that they could no longer use their royal titles, except for the Dukedom that Prince Harry received from the British Monarch.

Following the finalization, Prince Harry seemingly confirmed this when he first spoke about their exit in a public engagement last January, as per BBC News. He, reportedly, said that they had hoped to continue serving Queen Elizabeth II, as well as the British Monarchy. However, it was not "possible."

Despite this, the Duke of Sussex emphasized in his speech that this would not change him or his commitment, for that matter. Reports, later on, revealed that, even after their exit from the British Monarchy, they would still work on their private patronages and associations.

These days, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have continued to live a private life in their new home in the United States. Amid trying to lead a peaceful life alongside their son, Archie Harrison, new allegations have emerged following the release of Finding Freedom's excerpts. But, as the talks about claims in the book continue to develop, Queen Elizabeth II, as well as the rest of the British Royal Family, has remained silent.
