NCIS: New Orleans season 7 is facing a lot of uncertainties when it comes to filming schedules. Just like of the shows out there, the CBS series won't be able to start production anytime soon due to the current global health crisis. Despite the delay, a lot of interesting stories are coming once it premieres.

The real-life health crisis is one of the major stories that will be addressed in NCIS: New Orleans season 7. In a recent interview with TVLine, series star CCH Pounder confirmed that the premiere episode is all about the pandemic and her character, Dr. Loretta Wade, will have a significant role here.

Pounder said she was shocked when she found out the news about the pandemic-themed premiere as she didn't expect they would address the subject. She revealed that executive producers Jan Nash and Chris Silber, who wrote the first episode, told her the first episode is all about COVID-19.

In NCIS: New Orleans season 7, Loretta is overwhelmed by the pandemic and the on-going loss of life. She'll be rattled by the latest body to arrive at the morgue since this person is someone she counseled on how to protect themselves during the pandemic.

Pounder explained the episode reflects the first part of the real-life health crisis, with people saying they don't need to wear masks. She added that Loretta will be shocked she wasn't listened to, or the situation wasn't really important to this person.

In addition, the actress revealed the story is set in the early days of the COVID-19. She noted that it is "remarkably reflective" on how New Orleans was in terrible shape until mayor LaToya Cantrell and governor John Bel Edwards implemented strict rules -- and that's when the cases went down.

Meanwhile, there are still a few episodes from the previous installment that weren't filmed. These episodes might be incorporated in NCIS: New Orleans season 7 at some point. However, these stories may not be part of the series during its early run since they'll focus more on the pandemic.

When it comes to filming, some reports suggest production mays start by September. But then, a lot of factors are needed to be considered first, including following certain health guidelines. Also, there could be changes in some scenes as cast and crew need to follow the proper social distancing measures.

If there are no further delays, we could expect NCIS: New Orleans season 7 premiering on either late 2020 or early 2021.
