While COVID-19 continues to sweep Western nations some Asian countries are experiencing a decline in new daily infections as government measures appear to be taking effect.

Tokyo's Daily Cases Decline a Little

Japan's capital Tokyo has been the epicenter of new cases in the country over the past several weeks but it experienced a decline Tuesday.

The local government reported an additional 188 new confirmed COVID-19 cases Tuesday following 197 cases Monday and 331 infections Sunday.

Japan passed 50,000 in confirmed coronavirus cases Monday. Most of these infections are in Tokyo and other densely populated cities.

Cluster Detected in Shimane High School

Local health authorities said Tuesday a new cluster emerged in the western prefecture of Shimane where  91 people were found to have been infected.

This increased concerns about the possibility of even more transmissions. Almost all of the clustered cases were among Rissho Shonan High School association football players. The team has played outside the prefecture since the last week of July and many members reside in the same dormitory.

But authorities said all patients showed few, if any, symptoms. As well as the football players, teachers and family members have since tested positive of the virus.

South Korea Suffers from Church-Linked Clusters

Cluster infections remain the biggest driver of daily coronavirus cases in South Korea. The country's daily infections rose to more than 30 again following several days below that figure.

On Tuesday the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed an additional 34 new COVID-19 cases bringing national infections to 14,660.

Of the new cases at least 33 were linked to a church in Goyang, north of Seoul. Since the church cluster was detected there have been transmissions at Namdaemun Market and a daycare center in the area.

Local transmissions have been on the decline since the first week of August but the past few days have seen outbreaks in small clusters.

Another church in Goyang has since logged 22 confirmed COVID-19 cases while a separate church in Gimpo recorded at least 12 infections.

India Cases Rise

Meanwhile in India, 53,601 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were logged Tuesday bringing national infections to 2,271,034.

The Health Ministry said while more than 1.58 million patients had recovered there were still some 639,929 active cases. There were also 871 new fatalities Tuesday bringing national deaths to 45,257.

The 50,000-mark has been a constant in daily new-case numbers since mid-June. This has increased concerns about the effectiveness of the country's coronavirus handling and if it has effective implementation of anticoronavirus measures.

India remains the third-worst affected country in the world behind Brazil and the U.S.
