Good Trouble season 3 won't be premiering until 2021 on Freeform. The series needs to address a lot of stories once it returns to the small screen. But, one of the major questions is whether or not the new installment will deliver stories about the real-life health crisis.

It should be noted that there are originally planned stories for Good Trouble season 3 even before the global health crisis started. The show can't change the plans just because of the current circumstance. Hence, these stories will still be executed when the new season premieres.

But, in a recent interview with TVLine, executive producer Joanna Johnson discussed how the health crisis storyline will be incorporated in the upcoming installment. She explained that the first half of the new season will feature the stories they already shoot before the pandemic.

The executive producer further explained that most of the characters in the series have jobs that take them outside of The Coterie. While some of them can do their jobs at home, other people can't do that. They cannot make some cast members just sitting around the community all day long is a mask.

Johnson believes that such scenarios won't be appealing to viewers. Then, the executive producer noted that the real-life health crisis will be incorporated in the second half of Good Trouble season 3 -- but in a different way and not what viewers would expect.

But, while the upcoming installment will address the situation, Johnson made it clear they're not planning to make the whole season all about COVID-19. She said it would be different from her Freeform limited series Love In the Time of Corona, which is finding connections amid the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the executive produced also confirmed that Good Trouble season 3 will address another real-life event: Black Lives Matter movement. This topic has been heavily factored in the series' story since it debuted on the network.

Johnson noted the first half is going to be "pre-George Floyd," and then they'll address that particular story later on. She said that she is heartened to see how people have come to embrace a legitimate and well-meaning work that Black Lives Matter has been doing.

At the moment, Good Trouble season 3 hasn't started filming and there's no official update when production could begin. In May, Freeform confirmed that the series is on hold due to the health crisis. Now, the new installment is expected to premiere at some point in 2021.
