Before Johnny Depp got the help of Winona Ryder for his libel case against The Sun, rumors had it he tried to win her back. After dating back in the '90s, did the two rekindle their romance?
New Idea reported, via Gossip Cop, Depp believed Ryder was his "ultimate soulmate." Allegedly, he was trying to talk to his friends about it to get some idea if she would still be interested in renewing their relationship.
However, an alleged source said the Stranger Things star wanted to avoid the actor. The 48-year-old actress, reportedly, said she was a fragile soul who did not wish to have a troublemaker like her ex back in her life.
Gossip Cop debunked this tale, calling the story fabricated. Ryder was dating the fashion designer Scott Mackinlay Hahn, so there was no way Depp would try to woo her. A real insider close to the situation even claimed the report was a complete work of fiction.
For the past 25 years, Depp and Ryder had not dated. So, there was no reason for them to rekindle their romance today.
Instead, the two remained as good friends. The Beetlejuice star even released a personal statement to help Depp in his going civil case against Amber Heard. In her court statement, she said her former partner had never been violent or abusive toward anybody she had seen.
Depp sued the News Group Newspapers over the article The Sun published in 2018 that called him a "wife-beater." The publication used his former wife as its star witness after she claimed the 57-year-old actor abused her throughout their relationship, Insider noted.
The musician vehemently denied the accusations and said it was Heard who physically abused him instead. He then called upon his ex-partners, Ryder and Vanessa Paradis, as his witnesses to defend his character.
Although they both did not physically appear in court, their witness statements had been released. Ryder called him her best friend and also as close to her as a family.
She continued she knew Depp "very well years ago", and they had been together for four years -- from 1989 to 1993. She considered their romance as one of the most important relationships of her life.
Hence, she saw the importance of speaking from her own experience, as she was not there during Depp's marriage to Heard. Ryder said her experience with Depp was wildly different from Heard's revelations, so she was absolutely "shocked, confused, and upset" when she learned all the allegations against him.
