Netflix temporarily suspended the production of projects in Korea following an upsurge in COVID-19 cases in the country.

According to a statement, Netflix will suspend Korean content production schedules for the time being to comply with the government's recommendations for public safety.

Netflix said that it decided to halt all productions to protect the safety of all workers who are participating in the production of Korean content.

The schedule for the release of upcoming dramas will be affected by the delays in production but Netflix said that it is willing to make adjustments because it considers the safety of creators and producers its top priority.

Among the productions affected were Squid Game and Our School Now. Squid Game is a series that centers around the contestants of survival game to earn the prize of the 45.6 billion KRW. The series is topbilled by Lee Jung Jae and Park Hye Soo.

Meanwhile, Our School Now revolves around a group of people who are trapped inside a school while a zombie outbreak hits the country. Young actors Yon Chan Young, Romon, Jo I hyun and Yoo In Soo have been cast as the main actors for the show.

It can be recalled that, last week, six Korean dramas suspended filming after several actors were found positive for COVID-19.

Three actors tested positive for the virus including Seo Jung Jong, Heo Dong Won, and Kim Won Hae. The three actors, previously, worked together in a stage production called Jjampong where a total of 15 members of the cast and crew tested positive for coronavirus.

Seo Jung Jong is a supporting cast member of To All The Guys Who Loved Me, while Heo Dong Won is part of the cast of Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol. Kim Won Hae is, also, cast in JTBC drama More than Friends.

The three dramas announced that they will stop production pending the test results of production members who had contact with the three actors.

Suzy Bae and Nam Joo Hyuk's new drama have, also, suspended productions as one of the actors on the series had contact with Heo Dong Won. Production for dramas More Than Friends, and Run On, also, paused filming after some members of their team were exposed to other productions where COVID-19 positive cases were reported.

South Korea reported the highest rise in COVID-19 cases since March with 397 new cases, prompting health authorities to reiterate social distancing and protection measures to stop the spread of the virus, Reuters reported.
