BTS smashed streaming records on YouTube and Spotify with the release of their comeback single called "Dynamite."
According to a report by All Kpop, YouTube certified that BTS' first English single secured 101.1 million views on its first day. With the milestone, BTS secured the record for the MV with the most number of views within a 24 hour period.
This effectively smashed the previous record set by BLACKPINK for "How You Like That," where Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rose garnered 86.3 million views in 24 hours.
BTS, also, managed to reclaim their title for having the biggest MV premiere on YouTube as 4 million viewers tuned in for the release of "Dynamite" last August 21. The number is almost triple the number of previous record-holder BLACKPINK, who drew 1.66 million views for the premiere of "How You Like That" last June
The record was first held by BTS for the premiere of "ON" last February 21.
BTS, also, destroyed Taylor Swift's record for the biggest Spotify debut in history. "Dynamite" debuted at the top spot of Spotify's Global Top 50 chart with 7,778,950 streams on its first day. This effectively toppled the record held by the "Folklore" singer, who had 7.742 million streams for the premiere of her song "Cardigan."
BTS was, also, the first Korean act to top the Spotify Global Top 50 chart, adding to the list of achievements that RM, J-Hope, Suga, Jin, Jimin, V, and Jungkook amassed with their comeback.
"Dynamite," also, topped iTunes Top Songs Chart in 104 countries as soon as it dropped on August 21, Soompi reported.
As their first English single, BTS members admitted that they had their fair share of challenges while recording the track.
In an interview, RM said that they initially did not plan on releasing a full English track but they thought of the difficulties that their fans were experiencing in different parts of the world in the face of a global health pandemic.
He said that BTS wanted to do what they can to uplift people's spirits at a time when they cannot do activities like going to the park, enjoying karaoke, or even attending concerts.
J-Hope said that, when the members were brainstorming how they can lift up their fans, they immediately thought of music and dance. He said that they too have been coping with the pandemic by writing and producing music.
BTS is set to perform "Dynamite" for the first time at the MTV Video Music Awards on August 30.
