Nancy Drew season 2 is not arriving until next year on The CW. The cast and crew weren't able to start filming the series due to the current global health crisis. But, the good news is that the production could begin in the coming weeks or months.
In a recent report from Deadline, it was revealed that Nancy Drew season 2 was one of the shows that received a green light to return production. Yet, it should be noted that there are other things that needed to be considered before going back to work.
Just like other series out there, the second installment must comply with certain health guidelines and protocols. The cast and crew need to follow the proper social distancing measures and they should be wearing PPEs while working on the set.
They need to make sure they'll be filming in a safe environment since the top priority remains to be the health and safety of everyone. Because of the real-life health crisis, the new season might look different compared to its freshman run, as well.
Meanwhile, Nancy Drew season 2 will pick up the remaining episodes left in season 1. Filming was forced to shut down earlier than expected because of the COVID-19 outbreak. After addressing these stories, the second installment will open a new chapter to the titular character and others.
One of the most interesting storylines in the new season is about Nancy's (Kennedy McMann) biological father. She discovered that the person she's constantly accusing of committing several murders was her real father, Ryan Hudson (Riley Smith) -- not Carson Drew (Scott Wolf).
This particular storyline will be the focal point in Nancy Drew season 2. During the virtual ATX panel, executive producer Melinda Hsu Taylor teased that there would be a "dad triangle" in the upcoming installment. The titular character is in a tight spot and a lot of things might be uncovered along the way.
Also, Taylor made it clear they want Nancy and Carson to go back to where they are -- just like in the books. There's a possibility the two will eventually find solid footing beneath them. It's exciting to see how this storyline impacts their lives, along with some unexpected twists and turns.
As for the release date, Nancy Drew season 2 was not included in the fall line-up of The CW fall. So, it is unlikely that the second installment will drop new episodes this 2020. We could expect the series to return at some point in 2021.
