Prince Harry and Meghan Markle said in their withdrawal announcement that they wish to be “financially independent” as they start their new life outside the Royal Family. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also vowed to pay the costs spent during the refurbishing of the Frogmore Cottage.

After a couple of months, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have achieved these goals. The couple announced that they have signed a deal with Netflix, which is a huge step for their financial independence. It was also recently confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have repaid the Frogmore Cottage’s renovation costs.

Royally Obsessed podcast hosts Roberta Fiorito and Rachel Bowie discussed how quick Prince Harry and Meghan Markle found a mega-deal and reimbursed the money spent in Frogmore. "I didn't expect it to be so so quickly. Six months later, they're already wiping their hands of the Royal Family's coffers,” Rachel said.

According to Variety, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had been talking to other networks such as Disney Plus, NBC Universal, and more. In the end, they have decided to sign a deal with Netflix, which Rachel Bowie believes “has been cutting massive checks for people.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix deal is being compared to the Obamas. Former U.S. President Barack and his wife Michelle Obama had a production deal with Netflix in 2018, where they also produced shows and films.

Before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their deal with Netflix, they were already heavily speculated to join the entertainment scene. Back in August last year, the former actress gave everyone a taste of their possible future job by lending her voice to a Disney documentary titled Elephant. The Duke of Sussex also appeared to be interested in doing voiceovers as well.

When the couple met Disney CEO Bob Iger at the London premiere of The Lion King, Prince Harry shared that he’s open to doing that kind of job. "Next time you need any voiceover work, we can make ourselves available,” the prince was heard saying in a video, and Meghan Markle added, ”That's really why we're here, to pitch.”

A report claimed that Queen Elizabeth found Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s video to be cringe-worthy. Royal expert Tom Steinfort said that Her Majesty may not be too pleased with how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are “selling” themselves.
