MBC's documentary about Sulli spawned an unexpected backlash. A netizen who claimed to be a long-time friend of the late singer-actress hurled allegations about her family after the feature aired.

According to a report by All Kpop, a person who claimed to be Sulli's friend since her elementary school days accused Sulli's brother and mother of not being truthful when they talked about her for the documentary.

According to the friend, Sulli confided in her about how her mom handled her finances. The friend revealed that Sulli once asked her mom about her savings and her mother told her there was none. The friend further said Sulli's mom also asked for advances of Sulli's salary from SM Entertainment.

The friend called out Sulli's mom and brother and asked them who the documentary was really for. She even criticized Sulli's family members for not having jobs and for revealing passages from Sulli's diary in the documentary.

In a separate post, the friend said that she was prepared to accept criticism about confronting Sulli's family about the documentary. However, she said she felt that she could not simply let things go when they were not being entirely truthful about her friend.

Sulli's brother also posted an apology on SNS, owning up to lashing out at his sister's friends and for not acting properly in arguments. He said he was sorry for accusing her friends because of his misunderstanding and appealed for understanding. He vowed to reflect on his actions.

It can be recalled that last week, MBC aired a documentary entitled Why Does Sulli Bother You? The film was developed to remember Sulli before her first death anniversary on October 14.

In the documentary, Sulli's family and friends shared stories about her life and the struggles she faced under the harsh glare of the limelight. Her friend, Tiffany Young, from SNSD lauded her friend for bravely staying true to herself even amid the endless barrage of criticism from netizens.

Sulli's mom, meanwhile, opened up about her opposition to her daughter's relationship with Choiza, who was 13 years her senior.

According to Sulli's mom, they had a falling out because she did not approve of Sulli's choice of a boyfriend. The K-Pop star's mom revealed that her daughter changed a lot while she was in the relationship. Sulli reportedly reconciled with her family after they broke up but they did not stay in contact that often.
