Apple's 3A283 firmware update for AirPods Pro appeared to include support for the feature called Spatial Audio which is common to higher-end AirPods.

Spatial Audio is coming to the Apple AirPods Pro. At least that is what appeared to some observers after a "Spatial Audio" option appeared on the Control Center after the 3A283 firmware version update.

Users of Twitter and MacRumors forums report seeing the option, which they may activate to turn on the feature, after the update. There was no mention, however, whether they are using their Apple AirPods Pro with the updated 3A283 firmware version on devices running on iOS14 as the Spatial Audio feature requires just that.

There are users at MacRumors forums who suggest that Spatial Audio works on their AirPods Pro with the updated 3A283 firmware version with Apple TV+ content. Some of them said they have tried the feature and were impressed by it, calling the audio experience "trippy," "immersive," and "mind-blowing."

One of the MacRumors forum members said that when he turned on the Spatial Audio on his iPad and used AirPods Pro with the updated 3A283 firmware version, he found the experience very cool. The user also remarked that the illusion of the audio coming right out of the iPad is so convincingly realistic that he thought the sound was coming from his device's speakers. The user also said he had to take an AirPod out of his ear to confirm the sound came from the AirPods themselves, adding that Apple might have used some dark magic to achieve such illusion.

Initially unveiled Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWFC) and included in iOS 14, Spatial Audio brings along movie theater-like sound to higher-end AirPods, and as recent events show, to AirPods Pro with the updated 3A283 firmware version. Apple said that Spatial Audio makes use of dynamic head tracking technology to bring about that immersive sound anywhere. This is achieved through the application of directional audio filters, as well as subtle adjustments to its frequency.

Spatial audio also uses Apple's accelerometer and gyroscope technology integrated into iDevices and higher-end AirPods, as well as AirPods Pro with the updated 3A283 firmware version, to track your head's motion and your iDevices' position. The technology then compares the motion data and then remaps the sound field accordingly so that the sound receivers stay anchored to your iDevice no matter which direction your head moves.

The 3A283 firmware version update also enables a feature on the Apple AirPods Pro, as well as on regular and higher-end AirPods, which allows for automatic switching between different iDevices. Using automatic switching technology, the AirPods can connect to any Apple device signed and associated with your iCloud account when you enable audio on that iDevice.
