Stumptown season 2 has been renewed earlier this year on ABC. However, the network reversed its decision now and chose not to move forward with the story. It was confirmed that the series won't be coming back for a second installment to deliver new episodes.

Recently, Deadline reported that Stumptown season 2 won't be happening on ABC anymore. The series has been canceled due to several reasons. One of the biggest ones is because of the production-related delays caused by the current global health crisis.

The series hasn't kicked off filming until now even though it has been renewed back in May. The biggest challenge here is working amidst the pandemic. The safety and health of everyone are still the top priorities of most shows out there.

A lot of series have been canceled despite early renewals, just like Netflix's The Society. Yet, Stumptown season 2 is said to be the most high-profile of the bunch. Apart from the current health crisis, it also encountered other setbacks behind the scenes.

For instance, the new season was further delayed after a showrunner change at the end of the first season. In addition, new episodes wouldn't be available on ABC until the spring. Clearly, the network wanted to move forward now and go in a different direction.

It remains to be seen whether or not Stumptown season 2 will happen in a different network or platform. At the moment, there's no indication that ABC is selling the show elsewhere. It's still too early to tell since a lot of works are needed to be done.

CarterMatt noted that the biggest challenge out there is getting someone on board a series that won't be around for a while, given that most viewers are yearning for content. A lot of shows are just getting back in production, but the release dates remain uncertain.

As for Stumptown season 2, it was originally part of the 2020 fall schedule of ABC announced back in June. The series was slated to return to its Wednesday 10 P.M. slot, which was its schedule in the first installment. But, the show wasn't ready for a fall launch so the network decided not to continue with it.

The series stars Cobie Smulders as Dex Parios, Michael Ealy as Detective Miles Hoffman, Jake Johnson as Grey McConnell, Cole Sibus as Ansel Parios, Tantoo Cardinal as Sue Lynn Blackbird, Adrian Martinez as Tookie, and Camryn Manheim as Lieutenant Cosgrove.
