The Crown season 4 will touch on a very sensitive subject that could help educate viewers, as producers confirmed Princess Diana's struggle with bulimia will be part of the story.

Prince William and Harry's mother suffered from an eating disorder during her decade-long marriage to Prince Charles. Princess Diana admitted in the biography, Diana: Her True Story, that she developed bulimia as soon as she got engaged to the heir to the throne. Actress Emma Corrin will play up this experience in The Crown season 4, alongside Josh O'Connor, who plays the Prince of Wales in the series.

According to reports, it is a storyline that will likely make the royal family uncomfortable. The Independent columnist Amy Nickell wrote that the show might also run the risk of triggering those who suffer from such a disorder.

Nickell added that Princess Diana's bulimia storyline in the Netflix series could be misused than "valuably educate" the viewers. She hopes, however, that the show producers handled the storyline right to serve as an inspiration and a solution.

Daily Mail reported that Palace insiders are already anticipating a clash between Prince William and Harry. Insiders do not expect that the Duke of Sussex will criticize the show because of his commercial deal with Netflix. But, Prince William is said to be irate about this whole thing, especially with the depiction of his mother on the drama series.

However, producers of The Crown said they consulted closely with BEAT, an eating disorder charity and their experts, to accurately do this story right. The people behind the series aimed to be careful and sensitive about this storyline, knowing it could impact the show's fans.

BEAT confirmed that Netflix and the production of Left Bank Pictures did consult them for The Crown season 4. In a statement, the organization said that while none of their representatives were on the set during the filming of the scenes with Corrin, they had provided advice to the show's producers.

They also warned the producers to tell the sensitive subject in a "non-glamorizing way." The group also said that Netflix must provide "trigger warnings where needed" in the episode.

The Crown season 4 will premiere on the streaming platform on Nov. 15. It will tackle the time period covering the 1980s. Olivia Colman, Tobias Menzies, Helena Bonham-Carter and Gillian Anderson are also in the cast as Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, Princess Margaret and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
