Gwyneth Paltrow opened up about the real status of her co-parenting relationship with her ex-husband, Chris Martin. Although it has been four years since they divorced, they are still a work in progress.
In an appearance on Drew Barrymore Show, Paltrow revealed she and Martin are committed to putting their kids first in everything. Although they look fine, there are times that she finds it hard to be with someone that she parted ways with.
But, as they are committed to spending some time as a family, they have to do to be together, Us Weekly noted. The 47-year-old star takes a deep breath, looks at Martin in the eye, remembers their pact, and then she smiles.
She will just end up hugging her children's father and recommit to the co-parenting relationship they now have. The Iron Man star continued that they are both trying their best to raise their daughter, Apple, 16, and son, Moses, 14, together.
The most important thing is for her kids "not to be traumatized" with their relationship as much as possible. Fortunately, the Goop founder and the Coldplay frontman are now in a better place than when they were still married.
Paltrow also told Barrymore that "every relationship is 50/50." The other person has to be brave enough to acknowledge their fault and take responsibility for how it affects the relationship.
Last month, Paltrow wrote an article for British Vogue, talking about "conscious uncoupling" and how it had "permeated the break-up culture" today. Although she knows it varies for every couple, she stressed she has to take responsibility for what happened in their marriage.
She needs to learn to forgive, let go, and discover that it is not a big issue to remain in love with the parts of a former lover that she used to be in love with. Anyhow, Paltrow and Martin now have different lives.
The Shakespeare in Love actress has been happily married to Brad Falchuk since 2018. On the other hand, Martin is in a relationship with Dakota Johnson, who he started dating in 2017.
Despite their separation, they often celebrate all the important events as a big family, along with their respective partners.
Paltrow explained she perfectly knows the roles of these two men in her life. Martin is the father of her children, while Falchuk is the person she will grow "very old" with, recognizing two different loves "can coexist and nourish each other."
