WARNING: This article contains spoilers for the first half of Lucifer season 5. Read at your own risk.

Lucifer season 5 resumes filming just recently. The series wasn't able to finish the entire production due to the current global health crisis. The good news is that everyone is back to work, and fans are going to see a new face once the show returns on Netflix.

In a recent report from TVLine, it has been confirmed that former Friday Night Lights actor Scott Porter will have a significant role in Lucifer season 5. The actor is set to play as Carol Corbett, a detective who has a past with Dan Espinoza (Kevin Alejandro).

Corbett will be part of the LAPD moving forward. What's interesting here is that he could have some sort t of relationship with Ella Lopez (Aimee Garcia) at some point. However, it's yet to be seen whether it would be something platonic or romantic.

Things get a little bit complicated for Ella in the first half of Lucifer season 5. Her last boyfriend, Pete Daily (Alexander Koch), turned out to be a serial killer. She's been through a lot, and being in a relationship with another man is, probably, the last thing on her mind right now.

Ella found out that his adorkable journalist boyfriend is the serial murderer, known as the Whisper Killer. Her heart has been shattered after finding out the truth about Pete. Now, Corbett's arrival could further shake up her complicated love life.

This new character could be the answer to Ella's prayers. Corbett is described as a buttoned-up detective, who immediately strikes up a connection with Garcia's character. The description "buttoned-up" detective seemingly implies that Corbett is a straight-laced alternative to the usual romantic partners of Ella.

Throughout the first half of Lucifer season 5, Ella has been doing her best to break the habit of being in an unhealthy fling with "bad boys." She thought that her romance with Pete was real and true until she found out the truth about him.

If it is, indeed, true that Corbett is Ella's potential love interest, Garcia's character would have a happy ending before the series officially concludes. Also, the character is expected to be part of the sixth and final installment, suggesting a relationship with Ella is plausible.

Meanwhile, the second half of Lucifer season 5 has no official release date at the moment. But, CarterMatt noted that the series could return in either late 2020 or early 2021. The first half is currently available to stream on Netflix.
