Kate Middleton has a new job that will have her working side-by-side with Queen Elizabeth's cousin, Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent. She was recently named the co-president of The Scout Association and is the very first woman to hold such a position.

The Duke of Kent has been The Scout Association's president since 1975. In accepting her new job, Kate said that she was delighted to share the role with him and help the Scouts strive to make a positive impact on society.

For her inaugural involvement with the organization, the Duchess of Cambridge spent time "camping" with the 12th Northolt Scout Group on Tuesday, Sept. 29, with the Duke of Kent. She happily toasted marshmallows with the children and then helped in making handmade cards for the elderly residents of a home care.

Kate engaged one of kids who told her she only got to eat one piece of marshmallow. The Duchess of Cambridge was surprised that the child had such control.

Another child taught Kate to make a toy paper bird but it didn't turn out well for the royal. She gave up after a few tries and told the boy that she might not get full marks for her effort.

The Duchess of Cambridge stayed awhile longer to hand out the Silver Wolf Award, a top honor in the organization. Kate also did not forget to thank the scout volunteers who supported over 500,000 youngsters and their families during the lockdown. The movement conducted online activities and scouting sessions as part of their Great Indoors campaign when the government required most people to isolate from the virus.

The Scout Association trains members from six years old to 25 years old to acquire outdoor and survival skills. Established since 1908, the organization is the largest co-educational youth movement in the U.K.

Kate, who enjoys the outdoor life herself, grew up a Brownie, which makes this new job fit for her. She has been a volunteer of the Scouts in Anglesey since 2012 or just a year after she married Prince William. The duchess said that she was struck about how much impact the organization brings to young people.

In 2016, Kate also visited a scout group in King's Lynn and went with Prince William to Wales when he dropped by the Menai Bridge Scouts in 2019. That same year, the duchess went to the Gilwell Park Scouts Headquarters as she was working on her Early Years initiative.
