Song Joong Ki is one of South Korea's premiere leading men. However, like many other actors,  he went through the wringer before he reached his current status.

Before he ventured into acting, it was reported that Song Joong Ki competed in short track speed skating. Unfortunately, an injury forced him to retire from the sport. He was also a good student who gained entry to Sungkyunkwan University because of his 380 out of 400 score in the national college entrance test.

According to a report by Tecake, before landing the turning point in his career with his role in Descendants of the Sun, Song Joong Ki was featured as an actor in commercials. He started his career in a Dunkin' Donuts ad in 2008 and followed up the project with many other appearances for products ranging from electronics, cosmetics, clothing, and health care.

The actor finally made his debut through the film, A Frozen Flower. He starred in the drama Get Karl! Oh Soo Jung in 2009. He appeared as a supporting actor for Sungkyungkwan Scandal where he starred with major stars like Park Min Young, Park Yoochun, and Yoo Ah In in 2010. He landed his first leading role for The Innocent Man in 2012 before enlisting to the military.

He made a major comeback in 2016 when he top-billed Descendants of the Sun where he starred opposite Song Hye Kyo. The pair started dating and got married in 2017 but divorced in 2019, less than two years after tying the knot.

Since the divorce, Song Joong Ki kept himself busy with drama and film projects such as the big-budget fantasy series Arthdal Chronicles in 2019. The actor challenged his skills by playing dual roles for the drama.

He recently completed filming of the sci-fi movie called Space Sweepers which is scheduled for release this year. In an interview, Song Joong Ki said he was drawn to his role in the film because the character was not flashy and did not hide anything. Despite these, the actor said he was still able to showcase the character's bright personality.

Song Joong Ki is also slated to star in the action movie Bogota. However, production was delayed due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

In relation to his personal life, Song Joong Ki was recently rumored to be dating a lawyer but his agency debunked the rumors. The actor and the lawyer also threatened to sue individuals spreading false rumors about their relationship, CNA Lifestyle reported.
