Song Joong Ki has announced his withdrawal from his upcoming film Season of You and Me due to scheduling conflicts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Song Joong Ki's agency History D&C, the actor had to drop out of filming Season of You and Me after the COVID-19 caused delays to his original schedules. The agency said that the actor is currently adjusting his schedules for the second half of the year but nothing has been confirmed about his upcoming plans as of yet, Soompi reported .

The agency confirmed, however, that Song Joong Ki will focus on promotions for his upcoming sci-fi movie Space Sweepers, which is expected to hit theaters this summer.

It can be recalled that Song Joong Ki signed on to star in two films this year, the action film Bogota which has a filming location in Colombia, and the drama Season of You and Me. Unfortunately,  Bogota's production was met with some setbacks when the cast and crew were forced to return to Korea earlier than planned because of COVID-19 concerns in the filming site.

Last March 16,  Colombia issued an order to close its borders and restrict air travel as coronavirus cases shot up to 210 cases with one death. Upon their return to Korea, Song Joong Ki and the entire team placed themselves in self-quarantine based on the protocols set by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), Korea Times reported.

The production team announced that filming will have to resume next year to protect the health and safety of the cast and crew. The postponement caused Song Joong Ki to readjust his schedule for the latter part of the year and decide to back out of Season of You and Me.

Season of You and Me was supposed to be a film based on the life of 80s singer Yoo Jae Ha, who, after releasing a hit album, died in a tragic car accident at the age of 25. The film also stars Kim Hye Jun, who will play Jae Ha's, first love.

Meanwhile, Bogota is a thriller that tells the story of a Korean man who emigrates to Colombia in the 1990s with the hopes of finding a good fortune in a foreign country. The film also stars Lee Hee Joon, Kwon Hae Hyo, and Colombian actress Juana del Rio, Channel V Live  reported .
