Outlander season 6 hasn't started production at the moment. The original plan is to resume working shortly after the season 5 finale. However, the series wasn't able to follow this schedule due to the current global health crisis. Now, fans need to wait for a while since the show is not coming back anytime soon.

A lot of shows and movies have already resumed production amid the pandemic. But then, it seems like the wait for Outlander season 6 is longer. According to a previous report from UK Casting News, the series is set to begin filming in Scotland in January 2021.

Following the news, fans took to Twitter to express their reaction about the delayed production. One fan said that "it's the longer Droughtlander ever," while another one asked how much filming cast and crew could do in Scotland this coming January.

The delayed production means the release date of Outlander season 6 has been pushed back, as well. Some speculated that the series could return in October 2021 on Starz. However, others suggest that it could be longer than that, with a 2022 premiere feasible.

Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe didn't confirm whether or not production will, indeed, start in January. But, both of them are ready to get back to work. During the PaleyFest in July, Balfe noted that she's excited to see all her crew, while Heughan said that he's looking forward to no more Zoom calls.

Meanwhile, a lot of interesting and exciting stories are coming in Outlander season 6 despite the potential delay. In a report via Digital Spy, Starz President CEO Chris Albrecht teased fans that Jamie Fraser (Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Balfe) will be facing "new challenges, adversaries, and adventures."

Heughan noted that the fifth installment left the Fraser family fractured, with Claire needing some healing and recovery. Balfe added that she's looking forward to seeing her character coping with everything that happened to her and the repercussions of it.

The upcoming installment sees the family healing together as a whole. It's interesting to see all of them supporting each other during the difficult time of their lives. The new season could also feature other time travelers, aside from the Frasers. The story is opening a new universe to explore more stories moving forward.

Outlander season 6 is based on the sixth book in Diana Gabaldon's series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes. It will, reportedly, consist of 12 episodes.
