Lee Min Ho has won a lot of awards for portraying several characters, but he has now secured a new achievement for simply being himself. The King: Eternal Monarch actor becomes the first Korean celebrity to reach 20 million followers on Facebook and Instagram.

MYM Entertainment, Lee Min Ho’s agency, previously announced that the actor’s Facebook page has reached 20 million followers last month. And on Oct. 4, the 33-year-old actor, singer, and model’s Instagram account achieved the same thing.

Lee Min Ho also has an impressive number of followers on other social media platforms. The Heirs actor has over 3 million followers on Twitter and a whopping 28.6 million followers on the Chinese social media service Weibo.

Lee Min Ho has been a part of many highly-popular Korean television series that made him one of the most sought-after actors of the industry. While many would argue which show he starred in is the most successful, everyone would agree that Boys Over Flowers skyrocketed his career.

Boys Over Flowers is a 2009 South Korean television series. Lee Min Ho played the character of a very popular and wealthy high school boy Gu Jun-pyo. The story is about Geum Jan-di, a dry cleaner's daughter who got into the prestigious school through scholarship, who gets tangled up in the lives of F4, which is a group consists of wealthy young men led by Lee Min Ho’s character.

Boys Over Flowers is based on the Japanese shojo manga series. And before the series became a total hit in South Korea and throughout Asia, there was Meteor Garden, which was a 2001 Taiwanese adaptation of the comics or graphic novel.

Meteor Garden had a cult-like following, which most probably boosted the popularity of Boys Over Flowers. With Lee Min Ho portraying the lead character, it didn’t take a while for him to reach the superstardom status. The series also earned him the Best New Actor award at the 45th Baeksang Arts Awards.

Because of Boys Over Flowers, Lee Min Ho quickly became a household name. He then starred in other successful TV series such as Personal Taste, City Hunter, The Heirs, and Legend of the Blue Sea. His latest project is The King: Eternal Monarch, which is a 2020 romantic-fantasy.

Lee Min Ho’s acting career temporarily stopped when he left to complete his mandatory military service in May 2017. And on April 2019, he was officially discharged and resumed his acting.
