BTS and BLACKPINK are arguably two of the most successful K-pop groups to date. The Big Hit Entertainment boy group and YG Entertainment girl group have been dominating the charts and breaking records for years, expanding their success outside South Korea and Asia.

Recently, the 2020 MTV Europe Music Awards announced its nominees, and BTS and BLACKPINK are on the list. RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook received five nominations this year while Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa got three.

BTS is tied with Justin Bieber as the runner-up for the artist with the most nominations. Lady Gaga leads with seven nods.

RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook are nominated for “Best Pop,” “Biggest Fan Award,” “Best Group,” “Best Virtual Live,” and “Best Song” for “Dynamite.“ BTS had to beat a lot of big names for these categories, such as Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, and more.

As for Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa, they are nominated for the “Biggest Fan Award,” “Best Group,” and “Best Collaboration” for “Ice Cream” featuring Selena Gomez. BLACKPINK also has some tough competition, such as Cardi B, Sam Smith and Demi Lovato, and fellow K-pop stars BTS.

Last year, BTS won “Best Group, Best Live,” and “Biggest Fans awards.” In 2018, RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook took the win for “Best Group” and “Biggest Fans.” And in 2015, the Big Hit Entertainment boy group won the “Best Korean Act” award.
