BLACKPINK sets a new record for Kpop girl groups on the Billboard 200, as well as major U.K. and German music charts.

According to a report by Soompi, BLACKPINK climbed to the No. 2 spot of the Billboard 200 for THE ALBUM.

This was BLACKPINK's highest ranking on the chart, as well as the best ranking for any Kpop female group in history. THE ALBUM also became the highest-charting debut for any female group in 14 years. The record was previously held by the American girl group Danity Kane.

Based on Billboard's data, BLACKPINK's first full-length album sold 110,000 equivalent album units during its first week of release. This comprised of 81,000 physical albums sold, 2,000 track equivalent units and 26, 000 streaming equivalent album units.

In total, THE ALBUM managed to rake in 40.3 million on-demand live streams on the week ending on October 8th.

Over the weekend, BLACKPINK charted its best performance in the U.K. and Germany. According to a report by Kpopstarz, THE ALBUM peaked at No. 2 in the U.K. albums chart. Meanwhile, the title track "Lovesick Girls" made it to the U.K. Official Singles Charts at No. 40.

This was an impressive showing for BLACKPINK since this was the highest-ranking ever to be achieved by a female Kpop group in the country. As a testament to their strong following, Jennie, Lisa, Rose, and Jennie's special addition cassettes also sold 5,700 units to British fans in an age where music is played digitally.

To cap off BLACKPINK's chart breaking trail, they broke through the Top 10 of Germany's Germany's Offiziele Deutsche Charts. THE ALBUM debuted at No. 7 on Germany's biggest music chart.

The release of BLACKPINK's THE ALBUM was the final salvo for the YG Entertainment girl group after a stellar year of comebacks.

It can be recalled that this year, BLACKPINK broke multiple Guinness World Records for their first pre-release track "How You Like That." The momentum was sustained by their collaboration with Selena Gomez for the summer song "Ice Cream."

This year, Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rose also collaborated with international artists like Lady Gaga for the dance track "Sour Candy" and worked with American rapper Cardi B. for the song "Bet You Wanna."

Following promotions for their final comeback, YG previously announced that the members will focus on their solo projects. Rose and Lisa are expected to release their solo debuts while Jisoo will star in her first drama Snowdrop where she will work with Jung Hae In and Kim Hye Yoon, Koreaboo reported.
