BLACKPINK shot up to the top of Billboard's Artist 100 chart and made history as the first girl group to achieve the feat.

According to a report by Billboard, BLACKPINK's recent achievement was a major milestone because they made a 64 rank jump from last week's position to take over the No. 1 spot.

While BLACKPINK was not the first Kpop group to achieve the feat, becoming the first girl group to rise to the top of the Billboard Artist Chart was enough to prove that girl groups can perform just as well as male artists. Powerhouse boy groups BTS and SuperM previously made it to No. 1 of the Artist 100 chart.

Billboard's Artist 100 is a chart that gauges artists' performance in terms of album and tracks sales, streaming and social media fan interaction, radio airplay, and other metrics of music consumption. An analysis of these metrics provides a multi-dimensional ranking of the artists' popularity.

It can be recalled that BLACKPINK kicked off October with the release of THE ALBUM. The release of BLACKPINK's first full-length album is the culmination of their epic comeback year that started with their collaboration with Lady Gaga for the track "Sour Candy," their pre-release track "How You Like That" and their collaboration with American pop star Selena Gomez for the summer song "Ice Cream."

Last week, THE ALBUM debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Their title track "Lovesick Girls" and "Ice Cream" also broke through the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 59 and No. 64.

BLACKPINK dominated the World Albums chart by debuting at No. 1. On the Global 200 chart, "Lovesick Girls" charted at No. 2. The Global 200 is a new Billboard chart that measures sales and streaming performance from over 200 countries in the world. The song also debuted at No. 1 in the World Digital Song Sales chart.

Meanwhile, fans still can't seem to get enough of BLACKPINK with eight new tracks from THE ALBUM.

BLINKs headed on to BLACKPINK's debut MV and streamed the track to their hearts' content, catapulting the MV to one billion views. With the milestone, "BOOMBAYAH" became the first debut MV to achieve the feat. It also became BLACKPINK's third track to reach the one billion views mark after "DDU DU DDU DU" and "Kill This Love," Soompi reported.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK's first-ever Netflix documentary entitled Light Up the Sky is expected to drop on October 14.
