NCIS: Los Angeles season 12 is in production at the moment and preparing for a fall premiere. A lot of stories are coming for the series, with Nell Jones' (Renee Felice Smith) storyline being at the center in the first episode. Her future with the team remains in question right now.

In the previous installment, Nell decided to step away from the team for a while in order to give herself some time. Entering NCIS: Los Angeles season 12, we're going to see her seemingly working with the team again after Hetty Lange (Linda Hunt) gave her a chance to take on something new and exciting.

According to the synopsis, Hetty calls Nell to work on a cryptic assignment. It's yet to be seen what this assignment is all about, but it looks like Nell's skills are highly needed. However, this task may keep her away from the team, at least for the time being.

The good news here is that both Smith and Hunt are part of the premiere of NCIS: Los Angeles season 12. The latter, in particular, has been missing on the series over the past years. Still, the production has gone out of its way to make sure the show can utilize the actress.

While the current global health crisis makes it somehow difficult for Hunt to travel on set, the show finds a way to include her in the story. Reportedly, they even filmed in her driveway. After all, her character is an essential part of the show.

Previously, TVLine reported that the producers of the series were desperate to have Hunt appear in the premiere of NCIS: Los Angeles season 12. They've filmed scenes in the actress' driveway to include her in the story. They want to make sure everyone is safe while ensuring that Hetty is still part of the show.

There were original plans to include Hunt more in the new season. But then, the current global health crisis makes it challenging for all of them. It's yet to be seen whether or not Hetty will appear beyond her part in the first episode.

As for what else is coming in the premiere, a Russian bomber went missing while flying over the United States soil. G. Callen (Chris O'Donnell) and Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) will do their best to track it down in the desert. They need to secure its weapon and intel before the Russians on board can destroy the plane.

NCIS: Los Angeles season 12 premieres on Sunday, Nov. 8, on CBS.
