The Resident season 4 is not arriving until next year on Fox. Despite the long wait, the series has been sharing updates as to what can expect next. In fact, a recent report confirmed that a new recurring character is set to join the staff members at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital.

According to Deadline, How to Get Away with Murder alum Conrad Ricamora will be part of the upcoming The Resident season 4. He is set to be a recurring player in the story and will be playing the role of Dr. Jake Wong. He could have a significant role moving forward.

Dr. Jake Wong is described as a "handsome gay surgeon" and "an amateur singer-songwriter during his off-hours." Also, he used to be Dr. Bell's (Bruce Greenwood) stepson from a previous marriage. However, their relationship ended bitterly after the latter divorced his mother.

It remains to be seen how the character will be introduced in the story. But, it looks like his arrival at the hospital could stir some things up. He could either be the source of conflict to other characters or he could bring a new perspective when it comes to certain cases.

Meanwhile, The Resident season 4 will address the current global health crisis -- just like other medical dramas out there. It will deliver stories that mirror what's happening in the real world, especially the roles of healthcare professionals in saving lives.

In a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, co-showrunner Peter Elkoff discussed some of the hardships the characters will be facing. The premiere deals with the early days of the global health crisis, showing how the pandemic hits doctors and nurses personally and professionally.

Also, executive producer Amy Holden told Us Weekly that they didn't bring outside consultants to learn more about the real-life health crisis since the writing staff has a doctor and nurse. In fact, the premiere episode of The Resident season 4 is written by M.D. Eric Lu and Dr. Daniela Lamas.

But, beyond the pandemic-themed storyline, the new season will still bring other interesting stories. For instance, we're going to see Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) and Nic Nevin's (Emily VanCamp) wedding. The two have been engaged back in season 3.

Conrad and Nic were preparing for their wedding for quite some time now. In the upcoming installment, we could finally see the actual ceremony. These two have been through a lot and it's exciting to see them moving into the next phase of their lives.

The Resident season 4 is slated to premiere at some point in 2021.
