Xiaomi has unveiled its latest 80W wireless charging technology which can fully charge a 4,000mAh battery in less than 20 minutes.

Xiaomi, a Chinese multinational electronics company, has raised the bar in the realm of wireless charging technology. Recently, it revealed its new 80W wireless charging which charges a 4,000mAh battery to full capacity in only 19 minutes.

The company, however, did not say anything as to when its new 80W wireless charging technology becomes available in the market, though some industry observers say they might expect it in subsequent Mi flagship smartphones with 4,000mAh batteries. Xiaomi also said that with its new 80W wireless charging technology, your batteries can reach 50% capacity in only around 8 minutes and 10% in only one minute. That is one quick charge, for sure, even by modern standards.

The previous record of Xiaomi for quick wireless charging was at 50W, which was introduced with the Mi 10 Ultra. According to reports, a benchmark test of this particular phone model was impressive as its 4,500mAh battery reached full charge in only 40 minutes. As such, its new 80W wireless charging technology is expected to also do much for 4,000mAh batteries of upcoming Xiaomi smartphone models.

Recently, a known leaker said that starting 2021, smartphones with 100W wireless charging capabilities may become the standard. According to Digital Chat Station, a frequent leaker, many manufacturers are now focused on developing wireless charging for phones that are launching in 2021. If the information is true, then this is a major leap over present-day standards on wireless charging. Oppo, for its part, also announced earlier this year its own 65W wireless charging technology, although it has yet to show up in a commercial device, just like Xiaomi's new 80W wireless charging technology which can fully charge 4,000mAh batteries in under 20 minutes.

However, as the world inches closer to 100W wireless charging technology, industry experts start wondering about heat and battery damage. In the case of Oppo, it revealed that its 125W wired charging technology degraded the phone's battery to around 80% capacity only after 800 charging cycles, as compared to its 65W wired charging solution degrading the battery to 90% capacity after 800 cycles. Despite this reality, Xiaomi promises that its new 80W wireless charging technology, which can charge 4,000mAh batteries in less than 20 minutes, can perform better than those already developed by other companies.

Another concern raised by experts with Oppo's 65W wireless charging technology and Xiaomi's new 80W wireless charging technology, which can charge 4,000mAh batteries in less than 20 minutes, is their compatibility with other Qi charging solutions. For instance, Oppo's charging device defaults to considerably slower 10W or sometimes 5W tops for other Qi-compatible devices. As for Xiaomi, industry experts say they are going to wait and see how the company addresses this issue when its prototype is out.
