The hulk is back, that is the gargantuan and gas-guzzling Hummer, and thanks to General Motors, the resurrected version boasts of a sexier and modernized build. And the GMC Hummer EV is a supertruck that will not require a drop of petrol to run and flex its monstrous capabilities. Users need only to charge up for 10 minutes and they are ready to go.

That was one of the basic promises made by the Detroit-based automaker. The Hummer EV is an all-electric monster equipped with a power train that can pack around 100 miles of driving range in just 10 minutes of juicing up.

Electrek said the truck will be rolling out with a battery pack that has an EPA range of 350 miles with a charge rate of 350kW on an 800-volt system. For now, GM has withheld the numbers about the new Hummer's battery capacity but the vehicle is tipped to hit the market as a beastly rolling machine.

The Hummer EV's three-motor e4WD propulsion system will brim with enormous power, specifically up to 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. The same powerhouse can enable torque vectoring and crab mode. The latter when required will allow drivers to move the truck diagonally for maneuvering from tight spots during off-road driving.

As for the design language, GM made use of the rugged Hummer build but certainly with a touch of minimalism. The model unit comes in a white paint finish that is clad with black trimmings. The look and function make for a conventional pickup truck, which differentiates the Hummer EV from the futuristic aura that is the Tesla Cybertruck.

GM will sell multiple versions of the Hummer EV and the market debut is not expected until 2022. But the company said an Edition 1 will hit the road next year and will set back buyers $112,595, which is the starting price.

However, CNBC said the same model, at least the first batch of production units, has already sold out. GM claimed all Edition 1 models to be made available in 2021 have been reserved by customers in the first 10 minutes of the Hummer EV's unveiling on Tuesday.

GM said thousands have listed as reserved orders by would-be buyers who paid $100 in advance to be the first owners of the reborn and environment-friendly Hummer supertruck.

They will be paying a premium price for the privilege but the automaker has assured that the Hummer EV's market reach will be expanded. Future models will be released and priced below $90,000 but there will be slight trade-offs such as the following: 625 horsepower and 7,400 lb.-ft. of torque with two motors instead of three.

The GMC Hummer EV is engineered by its maker to be "the pinnacle of really electric and technological advancements in the automotive space."
