Talks about the studio change have been rampant as of late. Viewers wonder what incites the anime series to take the last-minute shift and how the studio manages to get the gig.

In an interview with Newtype magazine, translated into English by Anime News Network, the show's producers, Kensuke Tateishi, Toshihiro Maeda, and Tetsuya Kinoshita, discussed the sudden change. The three assured that Isayama's masterpiece would get the "explosive finale it deserves" despite the shift.

When they were still working for Season 3's production, the producers explained they already consulted with WIT Studio about the shift and decided a different studio would work on Attack on Titan Season 4. One of the hints that the story would take a turning point was when the previous season ended with the protagonist staring at the ocean.

Also, as the creators, they wanted the story to "escalate even further." Through their talks, they understood that making the final season would be difficult, so they looked for a new studio that would be willing to take big responsibility. From here, MAPPA entered the scene. Attack on Titan Season 4 is set to be out on December 7 in Japan.
