Supernatural series finale is coming next month on The CW. This is a significant episode and completely different than what we've seen in the past. The story is more about dramatic stuff and emotional moments rather than the season-long mythology.
Despite the current global health crisis, the plan for the Supernatural series finale hasn't been changed. However, the pandemic seemed to limit the guest stars set to appear in the episode. In fact, series star Jensen Ackles, who plays Dean Winchester, has something to say about the subject.
In a recent interview with Glamour, the actor said that a lot of familiar faces were supposed to come back in the final episode but that won't happen now because of the real-life health crisis. Ackles noted they try to filter their appearance into a montage, instead.
Since Supernatural series finale is the last episode for the series, they wanted to bring back notable names in the past to celebrate the show's 15-year journey. However, they weren't able to do that considering the situation. This particular part of the finale got nixed because of the pandemic.
But, even though there are limited guest stars, the good thing is that the story remains the same. The episode won't feature big and epic battles. It will focus more on delivering a heartfelt moment for most of the characters. Some of the loose ends since the beginning will be tied, as well.
Through most of the finale season, Dean and his brother Sam (Jared Padalecki) have been fighting against Chuck/God (Rob Benedict). This storyline will be wrapped up in the penultimate episode, and then the series proceeds to bring personal stories.
Supernatural series finale is all about the Winchester brothers, as well as the family they've built over the past years. Co-showrunner Andrew Dabb previously told TVLine that the last episode is more character-based and they won't be featuring fight scenes anymore.
That means we won't be seeing Dean and Sam taking on Case of the Week. Since the story is more personal, viewers should be prepared for dramatic moments. This is an emotional ending, given that the show has been airing for 15 years.
Three more episodes are coming before the final episode airs. Originally, the series was set to end in the spring. However, the schedule wasn't followed as filming was halted in March because of the coronavirus outbreak. The show returns in early October.
Supernatural series finale arrives Thursday, Nov. 19, on The CW.
