The crown for the best driver assistance system still belongs to GM's Super Cruise declared Consumer Reports in a recent ranking with the Tesla Autopilot trailing on the second spot, but a recent EPA rating showcased the efficiency supremacy of its 2021 Model 3.

According to Consumer Reports, Tesla is a 'distant second' in a recent driver assistance system rating. The U.S. electric vehicle maker's autopilot saw improvements in lane-keeping performance since it was last evaluated in 2018, the report said. Interestingly, those improvements were sufficient for Tesla's system to bag the top spot in the lane-keeping and performance category.

Consumer Reports scored Tesla's Autopilot 9 out of 10 for performance while GM's Super Cruise got 8 out of 10. The Autopilot also got the highest score in terms of ease of use. The rating was conducted to rank emerging technologies based on their safety, performance, ease of use, driver monitoring, and engagement.

General Motor's Super Cruise on Cadillac CT6 sedan got 69 out of 100 points in the testing conducted by Consumer Reports. The Tesla Model Y Autopilot scored 57 and was tailed by Ford Motor's Co-Pilot 36- system at 52 points. The Pre-sense technology on Audi scored 48 points. The testing and rating were conducted on 17 systems.

It is worth mentioning that the Tesla Autopilot tested by Consumer Reports was not made on the recently launched Full Self-Driving capability update. The new system was rolled out earlier this month, currently, on its beta build and exclusively available to select tesla EV owners in the U.S. The nonprofit consumer organization called the Full Self-Driving system a misnomer because it is not actually fully self-driving.

Meanwhile, the EPA recently released the miles per gallon of gas equivalent or MPGe ratings among electric vehicles. Electrek reported that 2021 Tesla Model 3, Model X and Model Y top the electric car efficiency charts rating of the regulator. On the tops spot is the Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD with 134 MPGe or 25 kWh per 100 miles.

Based on the report the first until the fourth spots are dominated by Tesla electric vehicles with the fifth spot secured by the Mini Cooper SE at 108MPGe. Other non-Tesla vehicles that made it to the top ten are the Polestar 2 with 92 MPGe on the eighth place and the Volvo XC40 EV with 79 MPGe on the tenth place. Even without the refresh, Tesla still managed to get to the top spot since its 2020 Model 3 Long-Range got 121 MPGe.
