The Crown season 4 is coming within a few weeks on Netflix. The streaming service recently unveiled the official trailer, featuring Olivia Colman's Queen Elizabeth II and Gillian Anderson's former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. The clip sees tension building up between the two women.
On Thursday, Oct. 29, Netflix released the official trailer of the highly-anticipated The Crown season 4. As shown in the clip, Margaret Thatcher can be seen meeting Queen Elizabeth II for the first time and outlined her plans to run the country, to which Her Majesty doesn't entirely approve.
Margaret Thatcher told Queen Elizabeth II that her goal is to change the country from being "dependent to self-reliant" and believes that she's succeeding. She also clarified that Her Majesty is just six months older than her, which could spark a power struggle.
Queen Elizabeth II replied that it's a "dangerous game" to make enemies left, right, and center. Margaret Thatcher assured her that she is comfortable with having enemies. Their conversation is seemingly setting the stage for a troubled, complicated relationship between them.
Aside from Margaret Thatcher and Queen Elizabeth II, The Crown season 4 official trailer featured Prince Charles (Josh O'Connor) and Diana's (Emma Corrin) relationship, as well. The latter is trying to fit in with the Royal family and even asked the Queen to accept her.
The clip showed more drama is coming as the wedding between Prince Charles and Diana comes closer. In one scene, Queen Elizabeth II discussed Diana's behavior, as asking what will happen is she doesn't bend. Princess Margaret (Helena Bonham Carter), then, responded: "She will break."
Set in the late 1970s, The Crown season 4 sees Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal family preoccupied with safeguarding the line of succession. They are securing an appropriate bride for Prince Charles, who is still not married at the age of 30.
Meanwhile, the divisive policies introduced by the first female Prime Minister on Britain impact the nation. Tensions arise between Margaret Thatcher and Queen Elizabeth II and grow worse after the former leads the country Falklands War, generating conflict in the Commonwealth.
The synopsis further notes that the romance of Prince Charles with the young Lady Diana Spencer provides a fairytale and it is uniting the British people. But, behind closed doors, the Royal family becomes increasingly divided.
The upcoming installment also stars Tobias Menzies as The Duke of Edinburgh, Marion Bailey as the Queen Mother, Charles Dance as Lord Mountbatten, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne, Angus Imrie as Prince Edward, Emerald Fennell as Camilla Parker Bowles, Tom Byrne as Prince Andrew, and Georgie Glen as Lady Fermoy.
The Crown season 4 is coming on Sunday, Nov. 15, on Netflix.
