The Crown season 5 is happening on Netflix but it won't arrive until 2022. Despite the long wait the historical drama has been sharing updates about what viewers can expect in the fifth installment - particularly the cast.
The series' official Twitter account revealed that The Night Manager's Elizabeth Dabecki will play Princess Diana in The Crown season 5 and the series' final season.
The final two seasons will unlikely feature present-day events. Princess Diana will be one of the most notable figures in the series and the storyline may concentrate on her death.
It has been confirmed Game of Thrones' Jonathan Pryce will portray Prince Philip in the last two seasons. Imelda Staunton is set to play Queen Elizabeth II and Lesley Manville will be Princess Margaret. Netflix will release more casting news soon as well as details of the upcoming fourth installment.
In season 4 the story is set between 1981 and 1990 when Margaret Thatcher, played by Gillian Anderson, is voted out of office.
The new season introduces Princess Diana, played by Emma Corrin. Josh O'Connor is Prince Charles. Season 4 wrapped before the coronavirus.
The fourth installment has no official release date yet. But it is expected to premiere later this year.
Originally, the plan was to have six seasons but this was cut to five. But in July series creator Peter Morgan said the final season was back on again.
