BLACKPINK Jisoo's debut drama is embroiled in controversy for its similar approach to Crash Landing on You.

According to a report by Kdramastarz, netizens expressed worry that the upcoming drama will inspire a romanticized view of North Korea because of its plot and setting. It can be recalled that, despite being a global hit, Crash Landing on You, a love story between a North Korean soldier and a South Korean heiress, received plenty of criticism because of the complicated political situation between the two Koreas.

Jisoo's first drama Snowdrop will be set in the year 1987 and will deliver a university romance with mystery and action. Jisoo will play the role of Eun Young Cho, a student from Hosoo Women's University. The cheerful young English major will stumble upon the character of Im Soo Ho while he is bleeding from wounds. She secretly treats his injuries in her dormitory.

Im Soo Ho will be played by One Spring Night's Jung Hae In. The actor will take on the role of a mysterious man who was raised in Germany. The character is expected to carry a big secret with him.

According to a report by SCMP, Jung Hae In's role will be that of an armed spy who is forced to choose between his mission and the university student he fell in love with. The story of Snowdrop is loosely based on the memoirs of a man who escaped from a North Korean prison camp.

Snowdrop will be helmed by powerhouse Director Jo Hyun-Tak and screenwriter Yoo Hyun-Mi. The pair were responsible for JTBC's hit drama Sky Castle in 2018.

Apart from Jisoo and Jung Hae In, Sky Castle star Kim Hye Yoon will join the cast of Snowdrop.

Snowdrop is Jisoo's first major acting role after her cameo appearances in The Producers in 2015 and Arthdal Chronicles in 2019. It can be recalled that she was heavily being pushed by fans for the lead role in the drama adaptation of True Beauty but the role eventually went to Moon Ga Young.

Jisoo's acting stint will start after she completes promotions for BLACKPINK's THE ALBUM. BLACKPINK had an eventful comeback year with the release of "Sour Candy," "How You Like That," "Ice Cream," and BLACKPINK's first full album last October 2. Members Jennie, Lisa, Rose and Jisoo are expected to focus on individual projects for the remainder of the year, Elite Daily reported.
