Peter Gadiot is returning as James Valdez in the upcoming Queen of the South season 5. The character came back in the season 4 finale, shocking many with its jaw-dropping twist. Fans speculated that he could have a romantic reunion with his ex-girlfriend Teresa Mendoza (Alice Braga) in the next chapter.

Showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez confirmed that fans will be seeing more of Gadiot's James in Queen of the South season 5. Initially, some were worried the character will only return for a few episodes and then be killed off in the series, eventually.

However, Rodriguez shuts down such speculations via Twitter. In one of her recent posts, the showrunner addressed rumors that James would only come back for a limited appearance. Amidst the US Presidential Election, she shared some updates as to what's coming next in the series.

She wrote that even though a lot of people were focused on the election, she feels that fans of the USA Network series "only care about one thing." She, then, confirmed that James is coming back in Queen of the South season 5, adding that they didn't bring him back only to be killed off later on.

A lot of fans were delight by the news and hoping to see a potential romance between James and Teresa in the fifth installment. At the end of the season 4 finale, we saw him returned and warned her about the potential threats coming after her.

Meanwhile, Molly Burnett is set to have a regular role in Queen of the South season 5. She portrays Kelly Anne Van Awken, a recurring character in the previous seasons. This promotion means that she's going to have a significant part in the new chapter.

Kelly Ann is a member of Teresa's drug operation, albeit on-and-off. Her drug addiction puts her in danger most of the time, causing conflicts between the two women. In the third installment, it was revealed that she's a mole but she escaped, thanks to James.

After the incident, Kelly Ann decided to change and managed to achieve sobriety. She could come back to Teresa's life, especially since the queenpin is expanding her operations to New Orleans. The two could rebuild their tainted relationship to take down Judge Lafayette (David Andrews).

Meanwhile, the series is back in production after meeting several delays due to the current global health crisis. The fifth installment was set to be released in 2020 but the schedule was postponed due to the pandemic. No further details as to when the series could officially premiere.

We will update fans when more details are available about Queen of the South season 5.
