Jill Biden and Joe Biden tied the knot 43 years ago. She became the step-mother of Hunter and Beau Biden, whose mother and sister died in a car accident.

The former Second Lady had a husband before his current one. They divorced each other, though, nearly five years after their wedding in 1970.

Similarly, Joe had his first wife in 1966. However, the marriage ended when Neilia Hunter, alongside their infant daughter, died in a car crash.

Three years after the tragic accident, Joe and Jill met on a blind date. They continued dating for two years before ultimately marrying each other.

The Daily Mail recalled that they held the special ceremony at the United Nations chapel in 1977. As for the reception lunch, it took place at the Sign of the Dove in New York City.

About three decades later, Joe Biden released a biography titled, Promises To Keep. He described Jill Biden as someone who gave his life back to him, adding that his now-wife made him think about his family becoming "whole again."

The former Vice President repeatedly shared with the public that it took five proposals before the American educator said yes. While the potential First Lady does not deny it, she revealed that she "loved him from the start."

Jill Biden explained the reasons behind why she turned down Joe Biden's earlier proposals. She revealed in her 2019 book that her biggest concerns centered on Hunter and Beau Biden.

She noted that the two boys had "endured" losing their mother already, and them having her in their lives, she could not have them lose another mother. But, despite these thoughts, the former Vice President would, reportedly, tell his sons that their late mother "sent Jill" to them. In the end, the former Second Lady accepted the proposal and raised the boys as her own.

Four years after their wedding, Joe and Jill Biden welcomed their daughter, Ashley. But, the tragedy in the potential U.S. President's life continued as his son Beau died in 2015 due to brain cancer.

The former Second Lady, later on, expressed her thoughts about the life-changing moment. She said that loss was "shattering," noting that it "instantly" changed her life.

Alongside the familial background of Jill Biden, reports, also, shine a light on her impressive credentials. While raising kids and supporting Joe Biden's "political ambitions," she remained dedicated to her career in teaching.

Forbes recalled that she became the first Second Lady, who held a formal paying-job while serving inside the White House. She, also, earned four degrees, including a doctorate from the University of Delaware.
