The Resident season 4 is not coming until next year on Fox, but the medical drama series has been releasing details about what's coming next to most of the characters. The upcoming installment takes on the pandemic while bringing personal stories at the same time.

The Resident season 4 focuses on the daily heroism of today's health care workers. Based on the synopsis, the doctors and nurses at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital will be facing personal and professional challenges. They have to fight for their patients' health while dealing with their own issues.

From being a private hospital, Chastain will transform into a public hospital. Dr. Randolph Bell (Bruce Greenwood) is forced to dig his past in order to find his estranged former stepson, Dr. Jake Wong (Conrad Ricamora), an elite plastic surgeon.

Dr. Bell will try to bring Dr. Wong to the hospital to increase the number of world-class surgeries at Chastain while attempting to repair their complicated past, as well. Ricamora is set to recur in The Resident season 4, so viewers will see his character appearing from time to time.

Dr. Wong is a "handsome gay surgeon" and an "amateur singer-songwriter." He is Dr. Bell's stepson from his previous marriage, but the relationship between the two ended bitterly after he divorced his mother. It remains to be seen how their past could affect what's happening to the future.

As for what else is coming in The Resident season 4, Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) and nurse practitioner Nic Nevin (Emily VanCamp) will finally tie the knot. Their intimate, beautiful wedding further strengthens their already powerful bond. The two got engaged in season 3.

Beyond Conrad and Nic's storyline, Dr. Mina Okafor (Shaunette Renée Wilson) becomes even closer to her mentor, Dr. AJ Austin (Malcolm-Jamal Warner). However, they need to maintain a professional relationship while they're within the walls of Chastain.

Dr. Barrett Cain (Morris Chesnut), on the other hand, wasn't mentioned in the synopsis. He became a significant part of the previous installment and served as a Big Bad to others. There could be unexpected stories coming for him moving forward.

Meanwhile, the official poster of the upcoming installment was released recently and it featured the health care workers at Chastain. The image is similar to previous posters, with a teal hue hover all the characters. The photo highlights everyone as they face the biggest challenge, yet: pandemic.

The Resident season 4 is premiering on Tuesday, Jan. 12, on Fox.
