The premiere of Grey's Anatomy season 17 delivered an unexpected story involving Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) and Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams). The two-part premiere episode featured a lot of events, but what happened between these two is a shocker to most fans.

Jo asked Jackson for a favor, a "rebound hookup," in the flashback scene in the premiere of Grey's Anatomy season 17. It can be noted that Luddington's character got divorced after Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) chose to live in Seattle to be with Izzie (Katherine Heigl) and their twins in season 16.

Jo wanted Jackson to be the "bridge" over the husband who abandoned her, and that she chose him because he's someone she could trust. Jo was ready for a casual hookup, but Jackson thought differently. Despite that, they still drew boundaries.

The two stopped kissing when Jo started to break down in tears and Jackson comforted her, instead. Then, both of them experienced awkward moments in the present time, with Jo admitting that she's embarrassed after "snotting" on Jackson's mouth.

Speaking to E! News, Luddington discussed what's next for Jo following divorced from Alex. The actress said that her character wasn't fine in the flashback scene, but she's getting closer to becoming alright. She added that Jo will try to figure out what she really needs with her life.

When it comes to her character's casual hookup with Jackson, Luddington explained that Jos wasn't ready for anything that's why she cried at that time. Still, she's helping herself to get better again and trying to find a way out of her heartbreaks.

Meanwhile, the actress teased what's coming to her character moving forward. Luddington hinted that Jo will be navigating through her single life. She noted that viewers haven't really seen her character single, and the new installment sees her living her new life being a single girl.

As for whether or not Jo and Jackson end up together in Grey's Anatomy season 17, Luddington teased what's next for the two. In a separate interview with Cosmopolitan, the actress said the two were vulnerable when they decided to hookup.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic is one of the biggest storylines in the latest installment, Jo and Jackson need someone to lean on. They may support each other amidst a difficult time, which could lead to something more, eventually.

Grey's Anatomy season 17 is airing every Thursday on ABC.
