Grey's Anatomy season 17 will be introducing a new character once it arrives on ABC. It has been confirmed that Charmed and Will & Grace actress Mackenzie Marsh is going to have a recurring role in the latest chapter of the medical drama series.

Only a few details were known about Marsh's character. But, according to Deadline, she is set to play the role of Val Ashton in Grey's Anatomy season 17. She is described as intelligent and working in a publishing company. While she has a loving sense of humor, she is actually "extremely lonely."

It remains to be seen how Val is tied to other characters. Yet, there is a possibility that she's one of the patients in the early run of the latest installment. Eventually, some secrets might be uncovered and she could have a potential connection to certain characters.

As per CarterMatt, the medical drama series tends to find a way to bring mysteries surrounding its new characters. Val could have a larger role moving forward. Considering her recurring role, we could see more of her within a few more episodes.

Meanwhile, Grey's Anatomy season 17 premiere episode will focus on the pandemic. Most of the characters will be dealing with the challenges brought by the current global health crisis. We're going to see the frontline workers risking their lives to save other people.

The previously-released trailer featured Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) thanking all the frontline workers. The pandemic would be the major focus in the early run on the new season, mirroring the struggles of doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers over the recent months.

But, aside from tacking the real-life health crisis, Grey's Anatomy season 17 will continue to explore personal storylines. For instance, Owen (Kevin McKidd) is still reeling with the aftermath of Teddy (Kim Raver) and Koracick's (Greg Germann) big revelation.

Link (Chris Carmack) and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) are preparing to be parents now that their baby has arrived. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) deals with himself after facing a near-death situation, while DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) still struggling with his mental health.

In another report, some cast members have been sharing updates about what's happening behind the scenes. Since all of them were working at times like this, they have to follow health guidelines and protocols. They need to wear masks and follow proper social distancing measures to ensure their safety.

Grey's Anatomy season 17 will be premiering on Thursday, Nov. 12, on ABC.
