The Undoing is a miniseries on HBO, starring Nicole Kidman. The mystery-psychological thriller premiered on October 25, with four episodes already aired. Only two remaining episodes now, so fans have been wondering whether The Undoing season 2 is happening or not.

At the moment, the fate of The Undoing season 2 is in question -- despite the show being a hit on HBO. TVLine reported that the ratings of the six-episode miniseries have grown steadily following its debut on the network, with episode 4 drawing 1.9 viewers (multi-platform).

The report also noted that the show is ahead of other HBO's new series, Perry Mason and Lovecraft Country. The former has been renewed for a second season already, while there's a huge possibility the latter series is coming back, as well.

However, it looks like The Undoing season 2 won't be happening even though the ratings proved to be impressive. The decision not to bring the series back has nothing to do with the numbers. Instead, there are no plans to extend the show since it was meant to be a miniseries.

There won't be any stories left for The Undoing season 2, as the show is based on the 2014 novel You Should Have Known by Jean Hanff Korelitz. The series sticks to the source material, and most of the events will be tied in the season 1 finale -- leaving no more room for another installment.

Kidman has other upcoming projects in the future, as well. She is set to star in the eight-episode Hulu series, Nine Perfect Stranger, which is filming at the moment in Australia. And just recently, the actress signed on the on-going Amazon series, Things I Know To Be True.

Meanwhile, some were wondering whether The Undoing season 2 will happen on another network or platform. While there is a possibility, there is only one book the series is based on. If ever a second installment is coming, then it won't be sticking on any source materials.

The Undoing follows the story of a therapist named Grace Fraser (Kidman). She is hoping and looking forward to publishing her very first novel. However, she discovered startling revelations later on. Her life turned upside down, and she must act as fast as she could to protect herself and her son.

In addition to Kidman, the series also stars Hugh Grant as Jonathan Fraser, Noah Jupe as Henry Fraser, Lily Rabe as Sylvia Steinetz, édgar Ramírez as Detective Joe Mendoza, Matilda De Angelis as Elena Alves, Edan Alexander as Miguel Alves, and Ismael Cruz Córdova as Fernando Alves.
