There is no official announcement that Lovecraft Country season 2 is happening on HBO. Yet, it seems like the plan is on the table considering what has transpired in the season 1 finale. There could be a huge twist in the next chapter of the story.

In a previous interview with Deadline, showrunner Misha Green said she's unaware of the series' future and "nothing is official yet." At the moment, there is no news regarding the renewal status of Lovecraft Country season 2. There won't be any updates for a few weeks following the finale aired on Oct. 18.

HBO is, likely, looking at the overall ratings of the first installment before making an official decision about the future of the series. The good thing is that the numbers are promising and the network has renewed other shows with lower ratings than this program.

Sine Lovecraft Country season 2 hasn't been given the green light, it's too early to tell when the show is coming back. If ever renewed, we can expect new episodes dropping in late 2021. But, considering the current global health crisis, there's a chance that the wait might be longer.

It can be recalled that season 1 was first announced in 2017. Filming, then, started in July 2018 and it took about two years for the series to make it to screens. Thus, fans need to wait until around 2022 for new episodes, and will most likely air on weekly basis -- just like the first installment.

Meanwhile, some of the major characters died in the season 1 finale. If the second installment will happen, we can expect Jurnee Smollett coming back as Leti, Michael K. Williams as Montrose, Aunjanue Ellis as Hippolyta, Jada Harris as Diana, and Jamie Chung as Ji-Ah.

While Jonathan Majors' Atticus and Wunmi Mosaku's Ruby died, the two could still return in the form of flashbacks. In addition, new characters could join the remaining cast, though it all depends on the story. Perhaps, Atticus and Leti's son, young George, could be part of the new installment.

As for the story, Lovecraft Country season 2 has no further connection to Matt Ruff's book. The complete story has been told in the first season. Yet, it leaves more rooms open to build new stories completely separate from the source material.

Lovecraft Country season 2 could explore other routes beyond Atticus' birthright. Now, it could see how the Black community is growing in their new magical gifts exclusive to them and inaccessible for the white people. This could be the focus of the new season moving forward.
