Having six monitors on one M1 Mac mini is possible with the help of some peripherals, though some say it is better to stick with the machine's standard, native configuration.

There is an old adage that says 'two heads are better than one,' and nothing is truer than in the case of Apple's M1 Mac mini, or make that six. A recent video of an imaginative YouTuber proved that a single M1 Mac mini can drive six monitors with the help of some peripherals. Some Apple fans say, however, that it is better for users to perhaps stick with the unit's native configuration.

When the Cupertino-based tech company unveiled the Apple Silicon M1-powered MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini back on November 10 of this year during the company's 'One More Thing' event, it changed the way people look at video output limitations of the Mac. The awesome power of the Apple Silicon chip allowed the Mac mini to have two displays, and the MacBooks to manage an external monitor alongside its built-in display. Today, the M1 Mac mini is again breaking limitations as it proved a single machine can also handle six displays, though some discourage users from doing so, pointing out that the Mac's native configuration should be enough.

Ruslan Tulupov, a technology buff, and YouTuber who focuses on new Apple products were among those who watched Apple officials extol the capabilities of the new M1 Macs. After the launch and receiving his own new M1 Mac mini, Tulupov decided to experiment on whether the new machine can drive six monitors without any glitch. With the help of some peripherals, the YouTuber was able to do just that and posted the video on YouTube. Many users, however, say they are not inclined to follow what Tulupov has done and would rather stay with the standard, native configuration of their new machines.

After receiving the M1 Mac mini he ordered, Tulupov set out to experiment with a theory that formed in his mind after watching the new Macs' launch. He posted a video of that experiment on YouTube recently, which proved that, with help from some peripherals, the M1 Mac mini can drive six displays without a hitch. Cautious observers, after watching the video, voiced out their opinion that while the video proved the power of the M1 Mac mini, going far beyond the recommendations of Apple may result in some unexpected circumstances, and so advised users to stay with the Mac's native configuration.

Tulupov published the video of his experiment on Sunday showing the M1 Mac mini working with six displays, which is well above its two-monitor limit. The YouTuber initially experimented with three monitors on one M1 Mac mini, with help of one adapter. In the latest video, Tulupov used a series of peripherals to bring his single M1 Mac minis total display count to six, despite advice from other Apple fans for the YouTuber to stay within the native configuration limit of two monitors on one single machine. Tulupov was able to accomplish the feat by using a series of adapters, which include a Thunderbolt 3 dock, Thunderbolt-to-HDMI adapters, and DisplayLink adapters. The YouTuber also used DisplayLink software and drivers compatible with Big Sur.
