IU's latest interview showed her vulnerable side to fans as she talked about her insomnia, her 12th debut anniversary, and self-love.

According to a report by Soompi, IU was recently chosen as GQ's Woman of the Year and was featured in an interview by the magazine.

IU got to share her thoughts with her fans as she celebrated her 12th debut anniversary through a concert for Yoo Hee Yeol's Sketchbook.

The successful singer and actress confessed that some of her songs were borne from her own experiences. "Knees" actually talked about her insomnia.

IU confessed that she had erratic sleep patterns mostly because she was always on guard about something. She said that no matter how hard she tried, she only slept peacefully one night out of three.

Like many young adults, IU said that her insomnia started in her 20s when she became too busy that her sleep patterns got messed up. She said that her body probably became used to being on standby for work that it developed an aversion to deep sleep.

IU talked about the importance of self-love, which she realized in her twenties. She shared her realization on how self-love was different from self-esteem.

She explained that, before, she confused her feelings of inadequacy for lack of self-love. However, she later understood how important it was to love herself even when she felt that she was lacking.

The talented artist further showed her depth when she talked about the concept of her upcoming album. She said that it will be a greeting and farewell to all those who  watched her grow under the spotlight.

IU earlier teased that she was already working on a new album when she appeared as a guest for New Employee Lee Jidong's ASMR

She acknowledged that it will take a long time for her to prepare because it will be her first album in a long time. She said that she planned to work hard on it and  surprise fans with its release, All Kpop reported.

It can be recalled that last May, IU collaborated with BTS' Suga for the release of "Eight." Suga signed on as producer and featured artist for the single. He also composed the lyrics with IU.

The collaboration was such a huge success that it quickly achieved a perfect all-kill on Korean real-time charts. It also soared to the top of iTunes charts in 59 countries at the time of its release, Soompi reported.
