Prince Charles was in love with this first wife, Princess Diana, despite his depiction in The Crown season 4 as a cold husband. The Queen's former press secretary Dickie Arbiter shared that he witnessed sweet moments between the royal pair before their marriage fell apart.
Arbiter said on the show The Royal Beat that Prince Charles actually could not keep his hands off his beautiful wife in their first five years together. He was with the royal couple on their tour of Australia in 1981 and witnessed how Prince Charles would sometimes pat his wife's bottom or squeeze her while they stand close to each other in public.
The former royal official said that the relationship between the Prince and Princess of Wales was great in the beginning. He believes that they were genuinely in love and happy.
Thus, Arbiter said that The Crown must consider putting a disclaimer on each episode of season 4 to inform the audience that they're watching a work of fiction. He said that the warning must be spoken because a written one will not be effective in underscoring the inaccuracy of the storylines.
Arbiter is not the only one asking for the disclaimer from the Netflix series. Princess Diana's younger brother, Earl Charles Spencer, suggested that the warning should clearly say that The Crown is not true but only based on real events.
Earl Spencer hopes that the viewers will be able to understand that it's a dramatic fiction for the sake of boosting its business. He also took issue with the depiction of his grandmother, Lady Ruth Roche, the Baroness Fermoy, who was one of Queen Elizabeth's confidante and ladies-in-waiting, who helped Princess Diana adjust to her royal life.
The earl said that his grandmother might be dead, but her children and grandchildren are still alive. He thinks that The Crown has not been fair as it's destroying legacies and memories of real people.
The show's creator Peter Morgan said explained in an interview with the Evening Standard that he's a dramatist and attacks the story "from an emotional perspective." His show is well-researched, but he needs to divert his focus on creating the drama for a TV show.
However, he understands that there will always be criticisms, but he has the support of his stars. From the very start, the actors of the series have said that their work is from the creative mind of Morgan, who has a CBE honor from Queen Elizabeth for his work in movies.
