Ford raised eyebrows when it announced in November 2019 that the Mustang muscle car will get an all-electric SUV with the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. The skeptics, however, are likely to welcome the latest update from the automaker that the electric vehicle will be screaming of top performance when it's ready to rock and roll next year.

This will be the case for the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition, which Ford said will achieve a breathtaking zero to 60mph acceleration in just 3.5 seconds. The company indicated that with the confirmed performance level, the Mustang will stay true to its iconic reputation while embracing the inevitable benefits of modern technology.

Firing up the electrified crossover is a powertrain that affords a push of 480 horsepower and 634 pound-feet of torque, also allowing for 235 miles of range per charge.

The new Mustang is a contraption that will continue to boast of the raw driving power associated with the brand while taking full advantage of clean energy breakthroughs, per the report by Electrek.

"[The] Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition not only gives you the added performance you expect from the GT name but accentuates the thrill with the responsiveness of an all-electric powertrain," Ford said in a statement.

Unsurprisingly, the modernized Mustang will remain a thing of beauty and Ford said the EV will retail in attention-grabbing paint finishes. And the colors to choose from include: Cyber Orange Metallic Tri-Coat, Dark Matter Gray Metallic, Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, Star White Metallic Tri-Coat, Grabber Blue Metallic, Shadow Black, Iconic Silver Metallic, and Space White Metallic.

Inside and out, the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition will announce its sporty breed, accentuated by the 20-inch Pirelli summer wheels that are paired with the MagneRide adaptive suspension system.

Ford drew attention too to the grille design where the pony badge will sit, which is unique for the Performance Edition. These exterior cosmetics and the sportier emphasis of the interior make for a ready distinction that the ride is of the elite GT breed.

Ford is now accepting orders for the Performance Edition and according to CNET, those who signed on early when the Mustang Mach-E was first introduced can opt-in for the GT variant. The automaker will accommodate the anticipated adjustments closer to the EV's production date, which likely will be around the spring of 2021.

The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition will be up for grabs summer of next year and the asking price starts at $60,500 but the actual cost can still go down. Incentives and dealership pricing are expected to provide significant discounts to would-be buyers.
