SEAL Team season 4 premiered just recently on CBS, and it sees one of the major characters coming up with a major decision about her future. After returning from Afghanistan, Mandy Ellis revealed that she could no longer do the job. She said that if she doesn't walk away, she'll lose herself forever.

This isn't surprising as earlier reports noted Jessica Pare won't be returning as series regular in SEAL Team season 4. Perhaps, the final scene at the premiere was the biggest shocker as David Boreanaz's Jason Hayes announced he'll be stepping down as an operator of the Bravo Team.

Jason told other members that leading the team has been a "great honor" of his life. However, he said that war had been his refuge for too long, and he's done feeling in. Then, he announced that he's ready to let go of his position and "find a life for Jason Hayes."

Speaking to TV Insider, Boreanaz discussed how Jason comes up with his shocking decision and what the future holds for him. The series is going to examine why his character stepped down, which is seemingly rooted with what happened in the premiere of the fourth installment.

Many were wondering what does Jason want to become now that he's not operating. The character has to figure out how to live his life after everything that happened to him while still on the service. Boreanaz said it's a "very heavy-handed situation for Jason," something he has to deal with.

Whether or not Jason's decision affects other Bravo Team members, the actor made it clear that his character will still have a "linear interaction" with them. They've built a bond over the past years, and he could help them when something went wrong.

In Jason's rationale, he may have decided that he's done for good. Yet, Boreanaz noted that he doesn't want to give away how his character deals with his decisions. He further added that SEAL Team season 4 would see a lot of characters "come and go."

Aside from Mandy quitting her job and Jason stepping down as operator, big changes are coming for Cerberus, as well. The team recognized the PTSD signs in the big canine, and they know that it's time for him to just be a dog. He'll be replaced by a new team dog named Pepper.

SEAL Team season 4 is airing every Wednesday on CBS.
